2. Information We Collect and Process
YAAL operates on a strict local-first architectural paradigm. We collect and process only the minimal data required to execute app locking and security features:
a. Security Credentials & Settings (Stored Locally)
- Data processed: Your configured PIN, password, pattern lock, recovery questions, and user preferences.
- Storage: Securely encrypted and stored only in your device's local storage (EncryptedSharedPreferences / Room local database).
- Transmission: Never transmitted over the internet or accessible by LeanWorks.
b. Intruder Detection Photos (Optional Feature)
- Data processed: If you enable the "Intruder Detection" feature, YAAL may use the device's front-facing camera to take a snapshot when repeated unauthorized unlock attempts occur.
- Storage: These images are saved strictly in the app’s private on-device storage for your review.
- Transmission: Photos are never uploaded, shared, or sent off-device.
3. Permissions Used and Their Purpose
Google Play requires explicit disclosure for sensitive permissions. Below is the comprehensive breakdown of how each permission is strictly utilized:
a. Accessibility Service API android.permission.BIND_ACCESSIBILITY_SERVICE
- Purpose: YAAL uses the Android Accessibility Service API strictly to detect when an application selected by the user is launched in the foreground, allowing YAAL to display the lock screen overlay.
- Data Collected: YAAL does not collect, monitor, record, or read keystrokes, personal communications, text messages, or screen content of other applications.
- Prominent Disclosure: The service is used solely for foreground package detection to trigger security lock overlays.
b. Display Over Other Apps android.permission.SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW
- Purpose: Allows YAAL to render the unlock screen overlay over locked applications.
c. Camera android.permission.CAMERA
- Purpose: Used exclusively to capture an intruder snapshot when a user fails authentication multiple times (if enabled by the user). No video or audio is ever recorded.
d. Installed Applications / Query Packages
- Purpose: Allows you to browse installed applications and choose which ones to protect.
4. Data Sharing and Third Parties
- No Third-Party Analytics / Trackers: YAAL does not include third-party advertising SDKs or tracking frameworks that collect personal identifiers.
- No Remote Transmission: All core features function entirely offline on your device.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
- All data, including settings, unlock logs, and intruder photos, remains on your device until you manually clear it or uninstall the app.
- Uninstalling YAAL immediately removes all stored app locks, settings, and captured intruder photos from your device.
6. Children’s Privacy
YAAL is a general-purpose security tool and is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
